Built for two channels: search today, AI agents tomorrow

Ask how landlords find a certificate provider today and the answer is a search engine. Ask how they'll do it in a few years and an honest answer includes a second route: asking an assistant to handle it — find who covers the property, check the price, book the slot, file the document. We built Stay In Date for both channels from the first commit, because the second one rewards exactly the same virtues as the first: checkable claims, structured facts, and pricing that means what it says.

For the search channel, the site is what it appears to be: genuinely useful pages for every certificate and every UK area, written to be worth ranking — plain-English law per nation, honest pricing guidance, renewal cycles, and answers structured the way people actually ask questions. No doorway pages, no spun text; a similarity engine ensures every town's page reads as written for that town, because it was assembled that way from authored variants.

For the agent channel, the same content ships in machine-courteous form. Every page carries structured data describing what it is — the service, the area, the questions answered. The site publishes a plain-text map of itself for language models, welcomes AI crawlers explicitly in its robots policy, and exposes a well-known endpoint pointing to the supply network's machine-readable register. An agent asking 'who can do a gas certificate in this district, at what price?' is a first-class citizen here, not an anomaly in the logs.

The deeper design choice is that both channels read from one source of truth. Supply states — bookable, quotable, seeking — are computed from the same register data whether a human or an agent is asking, and the honesty rules bind identically: an agent will be told 'no live local supply yet' exactly as plainly as you would. A marketplace that lies to robots eventually lies to people; we declined both, and the architecture makes the promise cheap to keep.

Why care now, while the agent channel is young? Because the cost of being ready is nearly zero when honesty is already the architecture — structured data is just our page anatomy made explicit — and because trust compounds on whichever channel it's earned. The landlord who found us through a search this year and the assistant booking on their behalf next year should meet the same site: checkable, labelled, and never claiming supply it doesn't have.
